From today's The Writer's Almanac:

What's in My Journal
by William Stafford,
from Crossing Unmarked Snow © University of Michigan Press.

Odd things, like a button drawer. Mean
Things, fishhooks, barbs in your hand.
But marbles too. A genius for being agreeable.
Junkyard crucifixes, voluptuous
discards. Space for knickknacks, and for
Alaska. Evidence to hang me, or to beatify.
Clues that lead nowhere, that never connected
anyway. Deliberate obfuscation, the kind
that takes genius. Chasms in character.
Loud omissions. Mornings that yawn above
a new grave. Pages you know exist
but you can't find them. Someone's terribly
inevitable life story, maybe mine.

Well, I dunno if mine's that interesting...

The Great LiveJournal
Outage of 2005

During the outage I went straight over to deviant art.

What did you do?

Brought to you by geek-foo

Well, I won't deny I haven't spent a bit of time there. But I spent some of it reading stories at While We Tell of Yuletide Treasure, a site pointed out to me by [livejournal.com profile] megthelegend last year. My gosh, I have not run across a bad story there yet, no matter what the fandom. Some funny Venture Brothers, a couple of absolutely gorgeous Last Unicorn stories (I swear Mr. Beagle could've written them), and a Dogma/Good Omens crossover that is just rib-tickling. Even a couple of Lamb stories (both got the comment "Are you sure you're not Christopher Moore?") And of course, Bebop and Trigun...

Oh, and I did do about 5 loads of laundry, too, while I was watching The Postman from Netflix - still haven't finished it. I loved David Brin's book - Costner seems to have rewritten it a bit.
