Saturday, one of John's friend cruised by in the alley with a mutual friend from Las Vegas, who was in town for a few days. He asked my permission (well, at least he asked, I guess), and took off to visit. I had a feeling we weren't going to see him for a while, so the kids and I spent a pretty lazy day watching TV and doing absolutely nothing. When I finally got the kids asleep, I fell asleep myself with the television and the lights on. I woke up about 3, turned the TV off, but left the light on. For some reason I do this if I'm expecting him to come home. He never does, and I have to stumble though a completely dark house, and wake people up when I trip over something.

He didn't get back until 10 am the next morning. He says they were drinking, he fell asleep and no one bothered to wake him up, until they told him menudo was ready the next morning (yech). Which is ok, I guess; I'd rather have him spending the night than trying to drive home.

It was scorchingly hot on Sunday, even here near the beach, and to make up for being indoors all the day before, we blew up the little wading pool in the front yard. The kids spent almost the entire day in their swimsuits, jumping in and out of it, and Gareth threw plastic fish into it from halfway across the yard. Avalon brought out her bear-bear and blankie, wrapped up in the latter, and went to sleep on the grass with her thumb in her mouth.
It was more definitely more pleasant out there than in the house. John spent a few hours with another friend playing horseshoes - they were gone for longer than expected because the park at the end of street was having some kind of a tournament and they had find another park to play at. At midnight last night, it was still 85 degrees F in our bedroom. It did cool off before morning, and today it only got up to 85 outside. Yes, I know I'm a wimp when it comes to heat. I was complaining to my friend Beth about it when I talked to her this afternoon, and she just laughed at me. She lives in Yucaipa, which is practically in the desert.

Tonight we are making sure we have everyones clothes ready, and all the school supplies gathered. We didn't find a new backpack for Angus, but he can use my old DBZ one until he can pick one out for himself. It won't last very long though, it's only made of cheap plastic. Gareth will be starting too, but we were unable to figure out whether he's an Early Bird or a Later Gator. The class lists were not labeled when we went to check what class they were in Friday night. The Early Birds start the same time as the 1st graders, so we figure we'll take him along then, and if we have to come back we will. Kind of a pain, but at least, thank god, there is NO MRS. K! Thank You!

I'm starting to get butterflies now. Now Gareth is starting kindergarten. I'm taking off work tomorrow, to see them off, and to give John moral support. He thinks he's going to get mushy.
