Quote of the Month -

I pick up a package of shark fin fibers wrapped in cellophane, and in the directions on the back the secret of making shark fin soup is revealed for the first time:

Cook two hours with ham or chicken, in chicken stock.

I stare at this a few moments and read it twice. I can't get over this! We are demolishing sharks worldwide to make ham-flavored chicken soup!

-Carl Safina, from Song for the Blue Ocean

John really didn't want me to come in the last two days; he is really depressed. But the monthly update has to go out and I wanted to do it before I'm gone for a week. And of course the stupid program is acting up. Why have the April landings dropped by 500 tons?! Unless they messed something up in the receipts database, landings should remain the same or increase. It would be just perfect if the entire mackerel fishery collapses because I am not an expert dBASE programmer. Doubtful, but it worries me. (Banging my head on the desk) This means I'll have to come in on Monday to get the damn thing sent out.

Val gave me a sympathy card for John that everyone had signed. A lot of office people know him since he's fed them at one time or other. It's weird recieving one instead of having to sign it.

Some of John's Michigan relatives are coming for the service and one or two will be staying with us next week. This means I've got to spend a lot of time cleaning house - I doubt John is up to it and it's really a sty. I still can't get caught up on the laundry, and Angus and Gareth have had this egg obsession lately. They climb over the gate into the kitchen, get into the fridge, grab a raw egg and break it on the patio, living room carpet, the hallway, etc. I can't seem to get it through to them that not only is it wrong to be wasting food, but it makes me very unhappy when I step in it in my bare feet!
