Apr. 1st, 2003 05:47 pmRecently, when the kids were asleep and John was gone running errands, I had just settled down on my bed to watch TV, when Stimpy jumped up next to me. Now, Stimpy has always been John's cat, first and foremost, since they fell in love with each other at the PetSmart when he was a tiny black tabby kitten with a voice bigger that he was. When he's indoors, he tolerates poeple; when he's outside, he's a wild thing, and usually only John can get near him.
So I was a bit surprised when he hopped up next to me, stretched his long body out and began purring and demanding to be scratched, bumping my hand with his head and kneading the quilt with his claws. "So you want to watch Cowboy Bebop with me?" I asked and he responded with one of those affectionate half-purr half-meows cats do. So we lay there for half an hour in companionable quiet, he with his green eyes half-closed and purring so loudly I had to turn the volume up a bit.
The second the credits began rolling he was up and standing in the hallway demanding I follow him. Of course, to the food dish. There was a small bare spot on the bottom so he thought it was empty. I should have known he had ulterior motives.
I feel used.
