I'm covered in BEES!!!

John was riding the scooter down the hill on Hamilton Ave. over the Santa Ana River, and rode right through a gigantic swarm of bees! All he could do was put his head down and keep going - he told me he kept going to keep the bees on him too busy thinking about holding on to try and sting him, and hoped for green lights all the way home. When he got there, he immediately stripped off his sweatshirt, left it outside and ran in the house. Luckily, he did not get stung, but there was crushed bee gunk stuck in several spots all over his helmet.

I saw a swarm of bees in the middle of the street at Pacific Coast Highway and 17th a few months ago; I was waiting to turn left and I yelled out the window at some pedestrians to warn them about walking right through them. They gradually moved across the highway and in among the houses. When I got home I called the fire department, who transferred me to City Works. They told me they couldn't really do anything unless the swarm settled on a building or something, and they were getting calls about swarms every day.

Not that I want to be alarmist, but it's been reported that any swarms of bees in this area should be considered to be Africanized.
