In Praise of Big, Old, Fat, Females....
Apr. 7th, 2003 11:38 amI was leafing through a pile of papers, evidence and comments for an upcoming Pacific Fishery Management Council meeting when I found print-outs for a presentation giving support to the creation of Marine Reserves. The title of a set of slides was "The Value of Big, Old, Fat Females" - being that larger females protected in a reserve and not susceptible to being caught, have more offspring, bigger offspring, and offspring better able to survive and migrate out of the reserve, than smaller females living outside the reserve. All making perfect biological sense sense for a fish. Maybe not so much for a human.
But still the titles made me chuckle:
"Say it now,and say it loud -
I'm a big, old, fat, female and I'm proud!"
Heh, heh.
