senoritafish: (so tired...)
[personal profile] senoritafish
Fairly uneventful weekend - John had Jerry and Dale come over; they brought over burgers and Italian sausages to barbeque. Dale insisted on seeing our new TV since she heard so much about it, so I had to take her in our bedroom - which is always the worst room in the house (not that the rest is any better right now).
So we had dinner on the patio, and then played darts and a few games of Yahtzee, which was fun.

Yesterday, the kids and I were out in the front yard. Since reading some of [livejournal.com profile] manawolf's entries about gardening has been making me feel somewhat ashamed of the state of my yard, I actually got quite a few weeds pulled out of one of the front planters. Luckily, they were fairly easy to pull because of the recent rain. Angus and Gareth were even interested enough to pull a few themselves. However, they were far more interested in the decollate snails I found. I had let some of these predatory snails go in the yard, oh, 2-3 years ago, maybe longer, and I had thought they had all died. I found quite a few of them, and not nearly as many helix snails (the round ones that eat your plants) as I expected. Many of the decollates seemed to have buried themselves in the soil, but they were definitely alive. Yay, biocontrols do work, they just take a while to establish themselves. I am going to have to make a trip to the nursery soon, but the freesia in the corner of the planter has lots of buds on it, and the species tulip my mother planted years ago is coming up again. I am going to have to bug my dad - he has never replaced the irises he killed with Round-Up a couple of years ago. One of them was a kind of expensive Batik rhizome - and he just thought it was a weed, so he sprayed it. Grrr.

Anyhow, there are lots of bare spots that need filling in. Maybe I can get some ideas at my garden club meeting tonight.
