Avalon's birthday at Ruby's was fun, once we finally got seated. The place was jammed because of the anniversary special. We ordered food for Angus and Gareth (although why we did, I don't know, because they will not eat it-but we have to try, hmmm?) and I figured Avalon could have some of theirs. She didn't eat much either. They were all way too excited by all the people, crayons on the table, and a big salt water aquarium in the middle of the restaurant. Angus kept wanting to stand and talk to the people sitting behind us ( who didn't really appreciate it). Avalon was having a grand time throwing everything she could get her chubby paws on on the floor.

John was getting irritated with his mother, who kept bugging him to make the waitstaff hurry up. I thought they were doing fine for how busy the place was. I guess she was getting mad that other people were going in ahead of us; but they were groups of 2 and 3, and we were a party of 4 adults and 3 kids!

As we were finishing up, the waitstaff brought over a little sundae with a candle in it for Avalon, and sang very loud noisy version of Happy Birthday, with lots of hand clapping, and stuck a Ruby's paper hat on her head. She looked at them with a mixture of suprise, shock and not a little alarm - I thought maybe she was going to start crying, but when they left, she looked after them for a long minute before she noticed her sundae. I wish John had remembered the video camera or at least the digital - the look on her face was priceless. Grandma had her camera, so we'll have to hope those turn out well. I quickly blew the candle out before she stuck both hands in it, and started stuffing both of them into her mouth. The manger came over and said "I'm guessing it's his first," (she was wearing rather generic overalls and shirt). I told him he was quite right, and she was having a great time - and thanks for the sundae.

We left soon after and went back to John's mom's for cake, which we were really too full to eat anyway. We gave Avalon her present, and I think she had more fun just pulling all the stuff out of the bag - and putting it back in afterwards. They all fell asleep on the way home, and were too tired to keep getting up once they were poured into bed (Thank god). We were beat ourselves.
