Well, tomorrow at 7:15 in San Diego, I board the R/V David Starr Jordan and leave on a research cruise for almost two weeks. I haven't been out on a ship/boat for more than 3 years, and the last time was only for a couple of days. I've been excited about it since I was approved to go, but suddenly after hugging the boys goodbye yesterday morning (they left on a weekend trip with grandma before I got home from work), two weeks suddenly seems like a very long time, and there's all this stuff I should be doing. John is depressed I'm going to be gone, which is making me feel even guiltier.

Trying to get everything I need packed; been doing laundry all day, pulling books out of Mount-to-be-Read (including new Harry Potter, whee! How's this for a way to avoid spoilers?). And trying to update my iPod, wouldn't you know it, the day before I want to go somewhere, iTunes will not work! Can't get it to start. Bleh.

Anyway, I will have email access supposedly so I'll try to make a few updates by email. I won't have internet access though, so if I make any mistakes or you comment, I probably won't be able to reply until I get back.

OK , back to packing. Remember, I wanted to do this...
