My daughter and I walked the block up to the Civic Center for a Planning Commission meeting, to register protest at the proposed doing-away-with of a small park downtown. Outside the City Council Chjambers are a few glass cases containing gifts from our sister cities of Waitakere, New Zealand, and Anjo, Japan. I knew about the stone lantern by the fountain outdoors, but wasn't aware of these smaller items. When we left, we spent a few minutes looking in the cases. If anyone has ever visited or is from those other cities, I'm curious to know what Huntington Beach has given them.

Whoa, I wondered why I was seeing a Maori carving on my f-list. That's really cool to see them in other places around the world. Unfortunately, I live pretty much at the other end of the country from Waitakere, so I can't tell you what they got from the US. The sister city thing is interesting, though; apparently, my city is sister to Portsmouth, VA.

And Virginia is on the other side of the country from me, so we're even. ;) I do have a cousin who lives in Virginia Beach, which is only a few miles away, but we've never visited back there.
