You might have heard about the wildfire on Santa Catalina Island, where the residents of the town of Avalon had to evacuate; I think I saw it made the New York Times. From the bluffs in Huntington Beach, near my house. The smoke was making runsamuck wheeze and he had to put on his filter mask.

Really? Wow, no idea it had gotten that far away.

They've been calling it a year-round fire season because we've gotten so little rain this year. When they get a bad fire out on the island they have to use the Marines' hovercraft to take fire trucks out there - they don't have enough of their own.

Really good photo. Out here in the desert, we could see smoke layers, but some of that may have been from the Griffith Park fire as well. That was a bit closer. No rain - all that smoke just lingers forever.
