Quiet weekend. Angus went camping with his grandmother - if you can call it that. She belongs to a singles RV group that goes once a month to a campground that usually has all the amenities - no more primitive than KOA. But he gets to spend a weekend with Grandma, and we have one less child for a weekend. Which means it's very quiet around here.

In the morning, Gareth & I went to Carole's for an officer's meeting for my garden club. Not sure why Carole keeps asking me to come; I'm not the secretary anymore (and I was a piss poor one - I'm lousy at taking minutes), but I'm still the yearbook editor, so I guess she still wants my input. The swap meet in November, where we usually have a rummage sale and make a lot of our moneyfor the year is sold out - so we thought maybe having a yard sale at someone's house instead. I think Carole was volunteering my yard - which I don't mind but it's really ugly right now (you wouldn't think I was a member of a garden club). And they'd like some business cards made to give to prospective new memebers, and labels with our chapter's info to stick on the back of the California Garden Club flyers. And ways to attract new members, and who hasn't paid their dues (I'm one - need to give Linda my $10). Gareth was going to draw, but when he noticed us looking at him, he decided to be shy and hid behind the couch. Carole's son Christopher came out and tried to talk to him, but that just made him upset.

When we stopped talking, the other two ladies went home and Carole and I walked around her yard, which looks pretty nice even though it's fall. She gave Gareth a little pear-shaped tomato (which he later gave to me) and we found a grasshopper and a pretty caterpillar; Carole took a picture of it for me, which I will have to post at [livejournal.com profile] invertebrates, because I don't know what it was. I remember we always used to keep them as pets when I was a kid. They have black fur with a brown stripe down the side, and you can see yellow spiracles though the fur. They would spin coccoons and turn into the loveliest white moths with black and orange spots on their wings. I haven't even seen those caterpillars in years since they started spraying the trees in this neighborhood.

In the afternoon, John went off to Jerry's to watch the World Series; after begging my permission. I don't know why he thinks he has to ask - I know his love of baseball and I'm quite used to him not being around when the series is on. Heh, he asked me to look up tickets for him (good luck!) after the Angels won, and originally said he wanted all of us to go to a game. Chance of a life time to go to a local World Series! Well, the cheapest thing I could find was $350 for a nosebleed seat, and I don't see how he expects three kids under 5 to sit still for nine innings anyway. It is kind of neat thing that the Angels won the playoffs (oh I'm a huge sports fan - can't you tell?), but I don't want to be anywhere near Angel Stadium until the series is over. Oh, excuse me, Edison Field - damn, I hate that naming everything after corporate sponsors - grrr.

So, Gareth, Avalon and I had the house to ourselves yesterday afternoon. While Avalon took another nap, Gareth and I went out in the front yard and he dug in the planter for a while. It was a bit of a relief not to have to chase after Angus for once. He will sneak off if my attention is elsewhere for a moment. Dad decided to spring for Chinese at the neighborhood place where they know him. I had to write down what we wanted, even though he's gets the same thing for us every time he goes there (they have a fairly limited menu). Gareth and I ate, while I watched Inu Yasha out of the corner of my eye. Dad's renter came by to talk to Dad; he had wanted to buy Grandma's house but I guess he couldn't come up with the downpayment, and the realtors had gotten another offer for more than he'd actually asked for. I took that cue to escape to the bathroom and let Gareth and Avalon splash around in the tub for a while, and soak off the layers of fried rice (Av had it in her hair) and broccoli beef. Neither of them wanted their hair washed (of course). Put Gareth to bed after reading two Thomas the Tank Engine stories, and since John was watching something about WWII on the History Channel and moaning about his sinuses not draining, gave Avalon a last bottle of milk and got her down too. Then I started dozing off in front of Outlaw Star (one I'd seen quite a a few times), so I figured it was time for me to conk off too.
