I need some husband superglue...
Jul. 18th, 2005 02:22 pmOtherwise, I have been very boring.
On finally getting to the doctor last week, John was told that the urgent care doctor was wrong – his shoulder is not just inflamed. He probably has a small tear in one of the tendons ("Can't you hear/feel all that popping and grinding in there?" the doctor said), and will probably need arthroscopic surgery to repair it. He walked out with several prescriptions, including a new asthma medication* (fortunately, with a free sample), and a prescription for an x-ray for his shoulder– which again, I had to call the office back to find out where he was supposed to go to get it.
That afternoon, his knee started hurting. The next day, it started swelling, and by Thursday he could barely walk on it. All accompanied by loud moaning and groaning. He didn’t want to go to the doctor again, but I stayed home Friday, to take care of Avalon make sure he started icing it (which he should have done when it started swelling, but it didn’t occur to him – it should have occurred to me earlier, before I got no sleep Thursday night from his thrashing around). We went to urgent care again Friday evening, and the doctor said yes, it was strained, and to keep icing and elevating it. He did give him a scrip for 800mg Motrin for pain though, and he was much better and walking more the next day. Funny, when I spoke to a couple of my friends on the phone, one told me “you know, for being so healthy, he’s the sickest guy I ever met,” and the other told me she wouldn’t put up with all the noise (she could hear him in the background). Well, it drives me nuts too, but what can ya do? If it’s the worst in for better or worse, I guess we’re doing ok. But god help me if something serious happens.
The boys went camping with their grandma and Gigima to Ventura this weekend, so at least it was quiet – Avalon didn’t have any brothers to torture. We went to Big Lots to get some new socks and also got her some SpongeBob undies (aww, the ones with seahorses on them – I wanted a pair), which she actually wore for most of the weekend, though she forgot a couple of times. Maybe she’ll be potty-trained before her birthday. I’m hoping she’ll do what Gareth did and just say, “no, I’m tired of those…” but I’m not holding my breath.
While we were at Big Lots, I remembered that someone in
anime had said that they were carrying anime DVDs. On checking it out, I discovered a few titles mixed in with a bunch of movies you’ve never heard of, but most were volumes from the middles of series. I did score the first volume of both Trigun and Gungrave for $4 each though. Cool! My first viewing of Trigun with subtitles, and Gungrave was actually pretty decent too. Sort of like The Sopranos with some undead thrown in.
After the boys got back from camping, the neighbor across the street invited the kids over for some cake and ice cream. It was his granddaughter’s first birthday, and I couldn’t believe how many people were there. John, who knows him better, said he just needed an excuse for a BBQ while his wife was out of town. :) There were tons of food and the kids got stuffed goodie bags. A pretty big party for a one-year-old who won’t remember it.
And apparently my mother-in-law decided Angus and Gareth’s hair was too long and took it upon herself to get them haircuts.

*Very strange, it comes with little capsules that you put in a dispenser, click a button that punches holes in either end of the capsule, and then inhale the contents. John said it tastes like powdered milk.

Date: 2005-07-18 10:49 pm (UTC)John is falling apart! I hope he can get the shoulder surgery soon. Don't put it off for long. It just aggravates.
Glad the motrin is working for his knee!
