We appear to have an infestation of fruit flies in the office. I was worriedly thinking that one or two had stowed away in my lunch, since we had a few in the kitchen (old banana in the trash). It's the whole building, though; I know I saw a couple around my desk, where there's nothing to attract them. I just heard TN say,"Well, big surprise; we're surrounded by strawberry fields!" I guess that might explain the source of the little red-eyed critters.

if people in the office have alot of plants, you will see it. at SBC almost everyone has a damn plant on their desk. it kills me. the lady next to me has a spray that keeps them from breeding like mad in your pot.

We have a spider infestation at my house. You'll be sitting at the computer, then suddenly, you see something out of the corner of your eye and you realise you're no longer alone... *cue scary music*

Oh well, there's nothing poisonous so far, but I'm not a huge fan of bugs and crawly things in general, LOL.

Yes, we've gotten those before too, those are fungus gnats. Gardens Alive sells a soil drench that kills them without a lot of poison.

They almost killed a potted amaryllis I had here at home.

We have a lot of the long-legged "cellar spider" variety, but they're generally harmless and I figure there must be bugs that they're eating, as long as they're staying up near the ceiling they're ok.

You get some damn huge ones where you are though. I had a huntsman almost jump on my ass the first night I spent in Brisbane, when I was an exchange student.

Aussie has some nasty spiders that we don't get in NZ, thank goodness. We've just started to get a few poisonous ones, but they haven't found my house yet. Apparently, they eat the web-spinning spiders and, when we no longer see any spider webs, then we start to worry. What we have mostly are the big harmless ones - yucky all the same.

Oops, I mixed up where you live with some others on my Friends List - sorry (although there's more of you in NZ, so I'm not sure why I did that).

Invasive species are a problem, especially on an island. Are they non-native?

Normally, spiders don't bother me as long as I have some warning they're around. I just don't like to be startled (by a web or crawly feeling) any more than the next person. It's my husband who really hates them and will kill them on sight. I once saw a spider on the bedspread and tried to catch it and put it outside before he woke up. I was just about to grab it with a tissue when he woke, yelled, and spide and quilt both went flying across the room. So much getting that one out of house - I never saw it again.
