My book group is discussing The Princess Bride on Wednesday. If I pick it up tonight after work (at the used bookstore, I hope), I wonder if I can power through it by then?

I should really look into getting a library card, so my end-of-month shortages don't affect my reading so much.

If not, the movie is a great watch :)

The movie is different enough you will need to read the book as well. I remember it being a relatively quick read.

It's one of my favorites; especially since Mark Knopfler did the soundtrack, and I worship Mandy Patinkin.

It's one of those I've been meaning to read since it was published, but have just never gotten to.

The movie, though, is probably our movie - one John and I used to love watching together. We can repeat a lot of the lines by heart.

"Sleep well and dream of large women."

"Life is pain. Anyone trying to tell you different is selling something." - John's favorite quote.

It's too bad Mandy Patinkin doesn't sing in it, though. Love his voice.

The book is significantly different than the movie. In fact, there were several lines from the movie that I painfully missed in the book-- that scene where Andrea the Giant says "MOOO--VVEE!" or something isn't the same in the book. And many more. But you can certainly power through it if you are a fast reader.

Twas ever thus. At least in this case, William Goldman also wrote the screenplay, so I'm sure one is at least as good as the other.

I'm looking at my copy of the DVD, and it has an audio commentary on it that I haven't listened to yet - that should be interesting!
