I know this has been being discussed here over and over for the last couple of years, but still, it's damn sad to see it being documented on other sites. I've had this account for over 10 years now, and while I backed it up on Dreamwidth, I don't feel like actually using Dreamwidth unless I absolutely have to. Like many other aspects of my life, I am difficult to transplant.

I suppose I'm contributing to it since Tumblr has been such a distraction lately (and probably not for the good), but I still don't feel like that's a great place for meaty posts meant for a lot of discussion. I dunno, I actually enabled comments on posts over there, but if you only interact through a dashboard, you won't know they're there. Although I do put things there that I used to put here - I've been thinking I should copy some over, but didn't want to bore the people who are in both places. Maybe I will anyway.

I just realized I haven't made a post here in over a month. I should remedy that, but I keep thinking I have to finish other things first. Doesn't stop me from getting on Tumblr though. Gah, I suck and I have no self discipline.

Ok, so what just happened to my eyes? I was sitting here at work reading on my screen and I started noticing this little distortion in the middle of my viewing area. At first I thought it was some kind of floater, because I have some permanent ones that never go away - my optometrist told me as you get older you lose fluid inside the membrane in your eyeball, and it begins crinkling a little, like a plastic bag filled with air, but losing some pressure inside over time. Then I noticed this had a kind of shimmer to it, and it was slowly expanding. It started bothering me to read. Then it expanded enough that it seemed "C" shaped, and the shimmer was caused by kind of a shifting geometric moire pattern. I tried closing my eyes one at a time and both; I could still see it. It gradually expanded and moved off to the left, into my peripheral vision, so it no longer interfered with what I looked at straight ahead, until it was just at the edge of my visual field. Then it finally disappeared, and I can see fine now.

This all took place over the course of an hour. I was wondering if I was going to be able to drive home, or if I was going to have to call and wake [livejournal.com profile] runsamuck up to come and get me. Eyestrain? Migraine (didn't hurt or anything though)? Hallucinating?

Jeez, that was weird.
