On a happier note, Gareth got a scholarship to the chess club at school!

John had looked into Gareth joining last year, but we found the cost ($80) a little pricey. So he asked in the school office if they'd ask the advisor if we could make payments or something. When they got back to him last week, the answer was that they'd give him a scholarship for the year! Very cool of them!

I'm amazed he's learned so early and actually likes playing. I know my dad taught me, but while I know the rules, I'm an indifferent player and I just never found it very much fun. Strategy doesn't excite me much, I guess. I beat John once (and only once) because I cared so little, I didn't play predictably.

But I'm very excited for Gareth. :D
