New version of AdAware out (1.05) - maybe it will finally get rid of that stupid VX2 infestation. Off to install it. We'll see...

As it happened, it didn't, but wow. The AdAware forum was actually of some help. This guy was having the same problem I was, in that the program would clear out that stupid VX2 malware, but it would just reappear when rebooting. Turns out it was a different thing that was being detected as VX2:

Vx2 not being removed...most likely because this is not a VX2 object! Why peper trojan is being detected as VX2 is beyond me. Ad-aware in Safe Mode will remove this since the peper files do not start in safe mode and are easy to clean. or use my PeperFix and scan/reboot all peper files will be moved to a backup loctaion.

Well, safe mode didn't work, but the PeperFix seems to have. Also clearing out my temp files seems to have gotten rid of the ads234 com thingie that was redirecting my browser.

*huge sigh of relief*

The last few days we've been getting strong breezes from the south, remnants from storm off Mexico I heard. The afternoon breeze has a bit of chill in it. This morning, however, my bleary eyes watched the wind bending over the cosmos out front in the opposite direction. It's the first Santa Ana winds of the fall. We dropped Angus off at school, and John drove up PCH to take me work. The wind from the east was blowing spray backwards from the tops of the breaking waves. It was a little surprising that it was so hazy, when the wind was blowing so hard. Usually when Santa Anas blow, it becomes crystal clear, and the mountains stand out like post card cut-outs. Not so today.

Gareth and Avalon both have colds. Gareth was out yesterday and is staying home today as well, although he feels somewhat better. I feel a little guilty because at bed time last night, Avalon was doing her usual "I have a hurty, I have to go to the bathroom, I need a drink of water, My nose hurts...", the last a new one, but I thought it was part of her usual litany she gives to stay up longer. She was up til after midnight as it was - I could not get her to stay in her bed. I made her get in bed with some stern words, and she howled for quite a long time afterward. John got up once later to attend to her, and I got up at 5 because she was howling. It turned out she couldn't sleep because her nose was stuffy, and therefore she couldn't suck her thumb. I felt bad that she was actually sick, found some cold medicine, and curled around her until she dozed off sitting up. By this time, it was almost time to get up myself. So we're all tired this morning.
