Can your fishy beat senoritafish ?

Glad to be a flashy betta (my favorite, purple with blue fins), but it looks like I need to start working out....

Several bettas have shared our household - unfortunately I can't remember any of their names. One survived a nasty dropsy infection, predatory cats and being accidentally being poured down the bathroom drain when his bowl was being changed (we had to take apart the sink trap to rescue him). Another lived as the unhappy bought husband of a female we already had in our community aquarium. She did not take kindly to forced marriages, and by the next morning, had beaten the crap out of him. His lovely fins were now shorter than his intended's, and we decided he might be happier in a bowl by himself.

I need to bring our aquarium home from work and set it up for the kids. I think they're getting old enough they won't pour milk in it when my back is turned.

Docks this morning were completely quiet. No one was insane enough to fish last night - I know yesterday there were gale warnings and large swells in Santa Barbara and Ventura, enough to keep the first leg of the research cruise I'm going to be helping out with in port.

In San Pedro, the power was completely out near the harbor. Harbor Blvd. was a little scary to drive down because all of the signals were out. The markets had all their doors open and were working inside the buildings, but couldn't have unloaded a boat even if one had come in - no power for the pumps that suck the fish out of the hold. One guy told me I should have stayed in bed.

I went up to Pt. Fermin just to look at the ocean - an older man parked there as well told me he had seen a pair of whales blowing. I scanned for several minutes in hopes that they'd surface again, but no luck. It is the season for grays to be migrating from Mexico back to Alaska, but it's been a long time since I've actually seen any.
