So, R. and D. pulled me aside last week to ask if I was willing. It would involve more travel as I'd have to go to Pacific Fisheries Management Council Meetings about four times a year, and they are often in the Bay Area and Portland. That, at least, would give me a chance to visit my brother. I've been asked to submit a Cirriculum Vitae for my nomination to the Coastal Pelagic Species Management Team. This is a team of people from three state agencies and the National Marine Fisheries Service (or NOAA Fisheries, as they like to be called nowadays) that provides input into the management of the fisheries of sardines, mackerel, squid and anchovies off the West Coast of the US. A bit different from your typical business-type management, although I suppose it does involve some aspects of it, since it's often more about the people using the fish, and less about the fish themselves. I've never done one of these before, so first I had to go look up some examples, to see how, exactly, it's different from a plain old resume.

Can I put "Work I enjoy while still having time and attention for family and friends, keeping my tenuous grasp on sanity, and not having nightmares about meetings" as a career goal?

More and more meetings and writing and computer stuff, and less and less sea time and critters. Ultimately it's about helping the critters and the ocean, but its not the fun part of it . (Yeah, yeah, I know, grow up. That's why it's called WORK.)

I hate soaps. Unless they're science-fictiony.
