Seeds...

The kids were very excited that some of the seeds we put in peat pots are starting to come up. Mostly the sunflowers and California poppies, but this morning I noticed tiny sprouts of blanketflower too. Yay! I'm going to have a ton of poppies, I think. One of the basil plants in John's herb garden has shot up about three inches; we actually used some in omlettes for dinner last night. The Siam Queen basil keeps trying to flower and I have to keep pinching off the buds.

I don't think it's hot enough for solarization to work. The plastic I put down on the other planter just has a bunch of weeds coming up under it. It's acting as a nice little greenhouse. I think maybe September or October might be a better time.

I wonder if it's too late to start beans? I've been ignoring the conventional planting times for everything else, so I might as well for them, too.

My garden club has our last meeting before the summer off, and I'm supposed to bring a salad, a table setting and my spouse. John already said he doesn't want to go, the stick-in-the-mud. Angus likes it, maybe I'll take him. Meanwhile, i have to run to Trader Joe's and get some frozen asparagus. I can throw it together in the breakroom before I leave work, since it's starting at 6:30 and I don't get usually get home until 6:00. I should really start coming in to work earlier.
