senoritafish: (easily distracted silliness)

A bunch of people are going to see the Shrek movie at 4:00 (the email to round people up to do this was entitled "Mental Health Trip"). While I'd like to go, I took an opportunity to make something instead of spend it (haven't any to spend anyway). While everyone else is laughing at Mike Myers' and Eddie Murphy's animated voices, I'll be answering a bunch of questions about Dismalland, I think. I'm a sucker for market research - anytime they want me to give my skewed opinion, I'll do it, especially if they want to pay me. $75 for an hour and half worth of questions. It was kind interesting that, along with all the demographic questions to see if I qualified, one of the questions was: What are 5 things you can do with a paper clip, besides hold papers together?

Why couldn't they have called me for the focus group on Wonderfalls?

Paper Clips are good for:

  • Replacing wire

  • Ejecting stuck cds in cd rom drives

  • Using as projectiles off rubber band slingshots. This is from experience. I was a miscreant in my youth. :)

  • Picking locks sometimes.

  • Shorting out electrical outlets.

  • A poor man's chip-clip.

  • Zipper pulls.

  • Fixing small hinges.

  • Really bad tasting toothpicks.

  • Emergency fuses.

  • If you heat them up with a flame, you can use them to spot melt/weld/solder.

  • Cheap assed keyrings.

  • Sculpture.

  • Thumbtacks in corkboards.

  • Cheap fishhooks.

  • Really awful mobiles.

  • A lot of them chained together make for cheap jewelry.

  • Let's not forget earrings.

  • and the list goes on and on...

I said the above two, plus

hair clips
button replacement
fixing a screen door

I have use them as chip clips, jewelry and keychains before, too, but it didn't occure to me at the time. We also use them to hang things on the cubicle walls by bending them open into an S and sticking the top end thru the fabric.

Unfortunately I didn't actually get to participate because:

1) my watch was 10 minutes slow
2) when I got on the freeway at Seal Beach Blvd. stupid people getting on the 605 would not let me over to the 405 lanes.

By the time I got there, they'd already started.

Oh well, at least I know where the place is next time.
