Like me, I know many of you are avid readers. How do your bookcases look? Are they overflowing? Or do you have books you can't wait to have other people read?

[livejournal.com profile] li_kao let me know about this, and I thought it sounded pretty darn neat. I know I have more than one copy of a few books, some I probably will never read again, and some I would love for everyone to read. This is like a tag-and-release program for books, a way to share your friends with others. You can register a book, then give it to a friend or just leave it somewhere for someone to find. Hopefully, that person will come to this website and make a journal entry so you can see where it's been. Some books have travelled all over the world this way. It sounds kind of fun and exciting to me. I know some of you do this to some extent already - wouldn't you like to have some means of knowing what happens to your paper friends? Check it out - I think it's a good thing.

I've only released one book to the wild so far, but it was a pretty exciting feeling.

Plus you can get a free advance reading copy of a book, Wild Animus by Rich Shapero, too (look in the left margin).

There's a community right here at LJ as well -[livejournal.com profile] bookcrossing.

I'm interested in the biff thing when [livejournal.com profile] runsamuck is finished with it. And I'm always up for interesting manga. See anything on my shelf that interests you? Let's trade!

Hoo boy, almost everything. I did read the Hyperion books - those were really good. Maybe I should read The Selfish Gene, to avoid that whole foot-ass thing...

I'm just a beginner at manga. I have the first volume of Gravitation, Dragonball and Trigun (which I only got last night). Want Gravitation? ;)

You're third in line for Lamb. The engineer of our boat wants to borrow it, too. I was going to just have him pass it on, but maybe I can give him an envelope addressed to you. Unless I find another copy first.

Thanks for letting me know about this. Coolest thing I've seen for a long time!

Sounds good.

Why don't we swap gravitation and Selfish Gene. Since we both want to keep those and just loan them with the promise of return, that works out perfectly :)

Whoops, sorry, I didn't realize that was part of your permanent collection. But sure. It's kind of an uneven trade though - you'll read Gravitation in about 20 minutes and Gene will take me a week at least. I'll have to find something else to send with it.

I'm sure you read the summary, but you are aware Gravitation is what's called a shonen-ai or boy's love story right? Not everyone's cup of tea. I was kind of pulling your leg when I suggested it.

No problem at all. I list it as a permanent collection item because I don't want it to disappear, but I do want to share it. Don't worry about any unevenness in trade - just send along the Biff thing when it comes available :)

With regard to Gravitation, I took your recommendation seriously. I'm not a big fan of romance (I guess we can't call it a bodice-ripper if it's two guys, can we? well, I suppose it depends on the guys), but I do like manga/comic art that isn't childish, so if you liked it, I'm interested to give it a try. I don't have a homophobic cell in my body, so the gender issue isn't (an issue).

I didn't think you were. One can be non-homophobic and still not care to read about details. Not that it's graphic or anything. I'm not huge romance fan either, aside from the occasional Barabara Cartland when I was a teenager. ;) I can send Dragonball along, too, if it's not too childish for you.

I'll pick up some envelopes tomorrow.
