Marine life and pictures....
Sep. 4th, 2003 02:20 pmI hope the boys got enough marine life last weekend. First coming with me to Shark Camp, then on Labor Day, John's mom took them to the Aquarium of the Pacific, where she has an annual pass. Avalon stayed home with us, as she didn't think she could handle all three of them, and I'm sure there were enough strollers there as it was. Of course, it was crowded as Dismalland on a holiday weekend (which only makes sense; it was a holiday).
Gareth got lost once, but was quickly returned by Aquarium staff. The rainbow lorikeets have been moved behind the scenes until after the threat of Exotic Newcastle Disease is past, so no feeding the birdies this time. They did have a wallaby to pet though.
Angus came back with a pink plastic jellyfish, and Gareth, a plastic great white shark that's as big as the smoothhound I tagged Saturday night. It's very realistic looking, although I wish toymakers could refrain from constantly depicting them with their jaws wide open and all the teeth sticking straight out. The default position is mouth only slightly open, and teeth (usually) hidden. They all got their picture taken, and brought Avalon a t-shirt with multi-colored clownfish all over it, and a floating sea otter with 3 little dolphins on its tummy. Needless to say, they all couldn't wait for bath time that evening.
Connie tells me she's thinking of getting us a family membership - I certainly wouldn't say no to that! They often have after-hours talks and events that I'd be very interested in attending. Still, I'd also like to get a membership at the Cabrillo Aquarium as well. It's smaller and farther away, but admission is still based on donations and it's more of a neighborhood thing.

I spent the day figuring out how Blogger works; I had opened an account there when CS was blocking my pictures, thinking I would just stick them there if they continued. They aren't, but maybe I'll keep it for the friends/relatives who want to see pictures, but aren't interested in reading my journal. Nobody I know in real life seems to want to. What the heck are those templates in - is that XML? It took me a while to figure out - and I was still mostly guessing.
I am still switching ISPs though. I did get a 5% cost of living increase this past month, so maybe we can afford DSL now. That would be nice, after spending 2 ½ hrs. to download an anime music video that was approximately the same number of minutes long. I'd love to be able to watch a webcast in more that single still pictures, and I've never gotten my 10 free digital prints from Snapfish because they take too long to upload.

Hmmm - TB is surveying a Dell computer - I think I'm going to swap out its floppy for the sci aide computer and JAZ disk for mine. When I talking to her about it, she noticed my earrings - "Boy, I wonder where you got those?" and we laughed - she had given them to me after she'd gone on vacation to Alaska. They're made out of dried rings of Alaskan elk kelp. She said her own pair had gotten broken long ago.
