Nice. LJ has done away with free, basic accounts. With the excuse of making the registration process "simpler;" three choices was apparetly too difficult for new users to figure out.

How simple do they think their users are?
I've had a paid account for going on six years now. Guess what. I started out with a free one - BECAUSE there were no ads, unlike most other sites. Is LJ really so insolvent unpaid accounts have to have ads on them?
And where do I find out about this? In very slow community I belonged to whose owner is converting for a friend's use because of this. Because it was buried in a comment so far down on the
news page I didn't see it. Way to go LJ.
