senoritafish: (That's Ms. señoritafish to you!)

You would think a group of people between the ages of twenty-five-ish and forty-ish (I don't really know the upper limit), would be more mature (myself included here). We all have been dying to see Finding Nemo since it was first announced, and when I discovered McDucks was giving away toys, well, you can guess where everyone had to go to lunch. All the toys are squirt guns (that really don't work very well) as well making noises or lighting up. The first ones we got at home are Dory making her whale noise, "Ooohaah!" --which is about to drive John nuts! A. said to be sure and tell him that the batteries are nonreplaceable, thank the merchandising deities...

Friday afternoon after work, bunch of us went to see it. Early, because we were trying to save a little money by seeing a matinee, but jeez, it was still seven dollars! Six for kids - no discount. I was thinking that the $9 bucks we paid to see Cowboy Bebop was a fluke because it was at an art theater, but apparently not. Since Regal bought out Edwards several months ago, they jacked up the prices by $2.50. Sadly, all the $2 theaters that showed older movies seem to be gone. I was thinking maybe we could actually start going to see a movie now and then since the kids are a bit older, but nearly $20 for two people just to see a flick (without even popcorn), is too much. A lot more of them are going to have to wait 'til they're on DVD. Animated movies especially though, I dearly love to see on a big screen. Sigh. And I really did want to see the X-Men movie and The Matrix (even though I haven't seen the first ones).

Ah well. The movie itself was wonderful. The animators used a lot of real fish habits, such as Marlin and Nemo shimmying around in the anemone tentacles, out and then back in tailfirst. And I don't know how they made a blue tang actually resemble Ellen DeGeneres, but they did. Somone told me they consulted and ichthyologist for tips on fish behaviour - they wanted to to give them eyebrows, but he reminded them fish don't have eyebrows. They still have eyelids, though, and blink. We all loved Mr. Bat Ray and wanted to sing along with him - we knew the words he was singing, but we didn't know the order they were in.

Angus and I missed the bit in the middle with the sea turtles because he had to go to the bathroom. Gareth wanted to stay and watch the movie, and since we were with people we knew, I figured he would be ok if he stayed where he was. When we came back, we found V. sitting with him, because a minute after we left, he decided he wanted to come with (kicks self - should've brought him to begin with). She told me she asked him, "Do you want to sit next to me?" and he responded "No!" - so she just sat with him til we came back.

Angus was getting antsy near the end and Gareth was getting sleepy - it was a fairly long movie - but overall they did very well. I was afraid I was going to get a lot of questions on what happened to Nemo's mom, but they never asked. We had a lot of fun, but it's going to be awhile until the next one, I'm afraid.
