First day of school...
Well, we've passed the third day of school without incident. We didn't know whether Gareth was an Early Bird (starting at 8:35) or a Later Gator (starting at 10:20), so we all set out at the same time. One of the parent volunteers told us we should have gotten a letter over the summer, but we didn't get him registered until last week; he probably didn't get assigned a classroom until last Friday because we were waiting for his TB test to come back. On arriving at his classroom, we checked with the teacher and she told us he was a Later Gator. So we dropped Angus off at his classroom; he has his own desk this year, right near the front, and he has a male teacher. We settled him in and went home, since parents aren't allowed to stay with first graders.
Later, Gareth seemed a little nervous on first entering his classroom, but thawed immediately upon getting his Later Gator bandana, and settling at a table with a bin of connecting cubes (which he insisted were Legos).
Sounds like they're starting out well; Gareth got a Super-You the first day, and Angus got one yesterday and today for helping the janitor pick up trash at lunch. He told John on the way home he wanted to be a janitor when he grew up. And a scientist.
I've been dropping off Angus before I go to work, and John takes Gareth, then picks them both up when they finish the day at the same time. Don't know if this will work all year, but so far so good.
