Disconnected...

Hmmm, came in a tried to login on my computer and I noticed "server not recognized" several times on the login window, then my Groupwise email refused to log in. Dialed my voicemail and just got a busy signal. Then nothing when I opened Internet Exploder, not even the default homepage. After checking with fellow cubicle workers, I found that apparently the entire 562 area code is down this morning - no phone, no network, no internet. A co-worker told me not even 911 is working. VT is out and I can only assume she called in sick, but I can't check my voicemail. Cellphones work, but I don't have one. Hope there's no emergencies this morning. (Edit - she just came in; she had to take her cat to the vet)

On another tack, the kids and I went to the brand new (rebuilt) Target, and we did find a plain black stocking cap for Gareth's costume in the men's department; it still needs stripes but at least it doesn't have a logo. But all the red T-shirts we found had long sleeves, and the only red socks in the whole store were a pair in a multi-pack of women's colored socks. Oh well, I needed more socks anyway. ;) [Come on people, the holidays are coming; you don't have any red or green clothing? What are you thinking? Don't you usually have it out in August?] There's a cheap t-shirt place on my way home from work that I'll check out; probably cheaper there anyway. I was going to check out the craft/fabric shop across the street, but we left Target too late.

The new store has these giant red concrete spheres next to the curb - the kids instantly referred to them as jawbreakers and began hugging and climbing all over them. I told Gareth he can come back as Double D and we'll take his picture with one (the Eds are often shown coveting these massive sweets that are larger than their heads).

Ah well - finish up meeting notes, then downstairs to look at mackerel otoliths, since I'm incommunicado for now (not that I'm on the phone much anyhow)...

(posted after phones connected, of course)
