On the way home, I found this nifty hand dryer in the San Francisco airport ladies room. It's like an air squeegee and works in about a quarter of the time a regular air dryer. You can see the dents the air is making on either side of my hand.

I guess I'm a big kid (yeah, big suprise there, huh?). I was fascinated by this sphere in a kid's science display in the United Airlines gate area. You spin it and the liquid inside simulates the way the winds on gas planets layer themselves (think Jupiter or Saturn).

There was a neat display of 50's era housewares in the walkway to the gates, that most people were ignoring by bypassing them on the moving walkways. I've always like pottery and teapots though, so I had to stop and examine each case. Cool stuff.

Fun little sealife mural in a restaurant; was thinking of entering this one as a waymark myself.

I think there's a law that for every large construction, including airports, there has to be a certain dollar amount going toward public art. If you click through to Flickr, there's a whole series of different ceramics sets, it was pretty neat. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who stops and looks at it; everyone else is in too much of a rush to get to their plane.

Wow, that's a pretty cool law.

I think it's a fairly new law. The San Francisco Airport has neat stuff; Phoenix has some good stuff; LAX has a couple of lackadaisical murals & that is it--mostly, it's industrial gray & muted brown; John Wayne is dull, dull, dull, or was the last time I was in it.

Other than the Duke sculpture out front (they have to have him, since it's named for him, right?) there's not a lot. I think there's some rotating paintings by local artists in the gate area - but it's a pretty small airport, too.
