Article on squid washing ashore - VT and KP spent the morning running down to Newport to collect a sample for NMFS. VT's phone has been ringing off the hook about them all morning, including two calls from radio stations for interviews (glad it's not me!). Although the NPR one decided since we weren't making a huge deal about it (it does happen once every couple of years, although usually in the summer time), they weren't going to either, and cancelled. VT said the interviewer sounded really disappointed, like she was really interested in doing it but the higher ups put the kibosh on it.

But if you happen to listen to KABC or KRLA (both AM) in the LA area, you might hear her talking about big squid over the weekend.
