Heh. Avalon & I are at the Long Beach roller derby, watching the Belmont Hot Broads vs. the Bixby Rollerettes with some friends from work. I think we're sitting in the wrong section - every one around us is rooting for pink and I think we're 'posed to be for turquoise.... Avalon was acting all excited to come and now she's acting like she wants to go to sleep. Silly girl.... don't you wanna learn how to throw a shoulder like that?

Edit: oops, sorry for all the typos - must not be able to see my phone as well as I thought. I'm actually surprised it posted at all, considering most of the time it won't let me comment...

I think I finally got it straight how the scoring works, by the end. I'm glad they're finding some use for the Spruce Goose dome.

PH and his wife came as well, good to see him since he retired about three years ago. He told me his favorite team is the Terminal Island Toosties - who whose uniforms look sort of like sailor suits and everyone roots for by their acronym, of course. *rolls eyes*

We'd gotten there by parking at the Aquarium and taking the free shuttle over, and it's a good thing - the parking at the Queen Mary is $12. Mary & Ian were going to give us a ride back across the bridge to the AOP, but we wound up standing around for half an hour until the press of traffic getting out died down. So we got to have a nice chat

They do have junior leagues, and there's one here in Huntington Beach. Might be something we'll have to put aside for; I think it'll be good for her.

A guy at work was trying to get a bunch of people to go in a group to an Angels game; I'm not much of sports fan, and [livejournal.com profile] runsamuck is usually only interested if they're playing the Tigers (he's a Michigan transplant). However, the Freeway series was sufficiently interesting to him he thought it might be a good introduction of a baseball for the kids.

It was kind of fun, but it was really hot (luckily the sun had gone down, at least), and [livejournal.com profile] runsamuck finally lost patience with repeated questions of "What's the score?" and "We can't have a hot dog?" (not when they're $7 apiece, and we're pretty much broke after the ticket puchase, no), so we left after the 6th inning. Actually they lasted longer than we expected.

I mentioned Hello Kitty being thirty a little while ago? This is happening about a mile from my house.

Beware - very pink...

I may have to drag the kids and go check. I'll just apply plenty of cute block. ;)

One of the sponsors is the HB Wahine Surf School, which has surfing camps for women and girls (kind of pricey though) - something I'd love to try before I get too old and fat. I live in Surf City USA, and I've never actually surfed. Boogie boarding yes, but almost anyone can do that.

Actually, my major obstacle to learning to surf is you seem to need to be a morning person. Which I most definitely am not.

I didn't watch as much this time as I usually do, and completely missed some of the events I most like to watch (such as fencing and equestrian). And I only have to wait two years for next one, now, when it used to be four. But it's still a bit sad seeing that torch go out.

Especially since it was so cool looking.

[livejournal.com profile] runsamuck had to point out that it looked like a giant joint, of course.

Whee, the Angels won! I'm not a huge sports fan but I did watch the last couple of innings and it actually got pretty exciting. "CATCH THAT FLY - CATCHITCATCHITCATCHITCATCHIT!!!!!" It was a bit sad, though, when they showed the footage of the Giant's manager's son, about 5 years old, crying his eyes out because Daddy lost. I could hear people around the neighborhood yelling and screaming - the kids and I went outside and you would've thought it was New Year's Eve, with all the yelling, firecrackers and bottle rockets going off. I was suprised we didn't hear any fireworks or such from the Stadium - ususally when they set them off at Dismalland we can hear the booms.

For the Angels, however, going to Disneyland would be redundant.
